Mobility / Super-App 2025 Personalized per-user

Bolt Rewind (2020–2025)

The European mobility super-app that wraps rides, food delivery, groceries, scooters, and car-sharing into one personalized year-end story — five years before Uber even tried. Founded in 2013 by a 19-year-old Estonian who took on Uber with a EUR 5,000 family loan, Bolt now serves 200M+ lifetime customers across 50+ countries and 600+ cities. Their Rewind covers every service in the ecosystem: longest ride, CO2 emissions avoided, most-ordered dish, favorite pickup spot — turning a multi-vertical super-app into a single shareable narrative. Bolt hit EUR 2B in revenue in 2024 and is exploring an IPO at $8.4B.

Campaign Breakdown

Bolt Rewind is the only wrapped-style campaign that spans an entire super-app ecosystem — rides, food delivery, grocery delivery, scooters, e-bikes, electric car-sharing, and corporate travel, all in one personalized year-end story. That breadth is what makes it unique. While Spotify wraps your listening and Strava wraps your workouts, Bolt wraps your urban life.

The campaign started in December 2020 as 'Bolt 2020 in Review' with the hashtag #LifeKeepsMoving — a nod to the pandemic year. The first edition was modest: an in-app recap showing minutes spent with Bolt, longest ride, and kilograms of CO2 offset, paired with a global stats blog post. The longest ride that year was 315 km, taken by a South African rider. No 2021 edition has been verified — it may have been skipped as the company focused on its massive $714M Series E raise and rapid expansion.

In 2022, the campaign was rebranded as 'The Bolt Wrap-Up' with expanded personalization. By 2023, it became 'The Bolt Rewind' — the name that stuck — and coincided with Bolt's 10th anniversary. The 2023 edition was the first to include Bolt Food and Bolt Market stats alongside rides: the most popular dish globally was a cheeseburger, the most popular grocery item was bananas, and one Lithuanian user ordered from Bolt Food 548 times in a single year. The Rewind also added environmental impact stats for the first time, showing users how much CO2 they avoided by choosing Bolt's electric scooters, e-bikes, or EV rentals.

The 2024 Rewind scaled dramatically with the platform: 200M+ lifetime customers, 4.5M active drivers, 50+ countries, 600+ cities. The most active rider globally — from South Africa — took 3,026 rides. The biggest Bolt Food order (Estonia) included 656 items. The most expensive order (Latvia) cost EUR 2,500. Bolt Business stats debuted, showing Bangkok, Johannesburg, and Asuncion as the highest-volume corporate ride cities, with Friday 5-6 PM as peak business booking time.

What makes Bolt's approach strategically interesting is the localization. Unlike Spotify or YouTube, which publish a single global campaign, Bolt produces country-specific Rewind press releases for dozens of markets — Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Malta, Lithuania, and more — each packed with local records and stats that give regional journalists irresistible headlines. The most expensive food order in Kenya (Ksh 89,000), the most active rider in Ghana (1,375 trips), the longest ride in Cyprus (817 km in 2025). This earned-media strategy is especially powerful in African markets, where Bolt has surpassed 1 billion rides and 47 million customers across the continent.

Bolt's trajectory mirrors the companies it now sits alongside in the wrapped hall of fame. Founded in 2013 by Markus Villig — a 19-year-old Estonian who built the first prototype himself and personally recruited drivers on the streets of Tallinn — the company grew from a EUR 5,000 family loan to a EUR 7.4 billion valuation. Revenue hit EUR 1.99 billion in 2024, operating cash flow turned positive at EUR 53.1 million, and the company has engaged PJT Partners to advise on a potential IPO. And they were wrapping their users' year-end data half a decade before Uber launched 'YOUBER' in December 2025 — US-only, covering just rides and Eats, while Bolt's Rewind was already spanning six service verticals across 50 countries.

Regional press coverage

Longest ride: 817 km (Cyprus) — nearly 5x the 2023 record. Malta stats: Saturday most popular ride day, International Airport most frequent pickup, St Julian's most visited area. The IPO year. Bolt engaged PJT Partners and debated US vs. European listing at a reported $8.4B valuation. The 817 km ride in Cyprus shattered all previous records. Localized press in 10+ markets

Most active rider globally: 3,026 rides (South Africa). Top driver: 8,104 trips (Kenya). Biggest Bolt Food order: 656 items (Estonia). Most expensive order: EUR 2,500 (Latvia). Most popular groceries: bananas, water, cucumbers. Bolt Business stats debuted — Bangkok, Johannesburg, Asuncion highest volumes, Friday 5-6 PM peak. CO2 avoidance stats for scooter/e-bike/EV users. Country-specific press releases

Rebranded again to 'The Bolt Rewind' — the name that stuck. First year covering Bolt Food and Bolt Market alongside rides. 10th anniversary year. Longest trip: 175 km. Top rider: 5,546 km over the year. 4.8M+ trips with animals. Most popular food dish: cheeseburger (globally), KFC Streetwise 3 (most ordered all year). Most popular grocery: bananas. One user in Lithuania ordered Bolt Food 548 times. Most expensive food order (Kenya): Ksh 89,000 (~$610). First year showing environmental impact (CO2 avoided) in users' year-end stories.

The breakthrough edition. Adding food and grocery stats alongside rides made Bolt Rewind the only wrapped campaign covering an entire super-app ecosystem. The localized press strategy paid off — country-specific records like the Ksh 89,000 food order and the 548-order Lithuanian generated dozens of regional headlines across African and European media.

Personalized highlight cards

Rebranded as 'The Bolt Wrap-Up: Your 2022 Highlights.' Expanded personalization in the app. Key stat: 78% more women driving with Bolt compared to 2021. Country-specific guides published (e.g., Nigeria). Bolt's valuation hit EUR 7.4B after a EUR 628M round led by Sequoia Capital and Fidelity in January.

The rebrand from 'Year in Review' to 'Wrap-Up' signaled growing ambition for the campaign. The 78% increase in women drivers became a headline stat, showing Bolt was using the Wrap-Up not just for engagement but to amplify its diversity narrative.

First edition — called 'Bolt 2020 in Review,' not yet 'Rewind.' In-app personalized stats: minutes spent with Bolt, longest ride, CO2 offset in kilograms. Global blog post with platform-wide stats. Longest ride of the year: 315 km (South Africa). Theme centered on resilience during COVID-19. Bolt had expanded to ~35 countries by this point.

The origin — and five years before Uber would launch its first-ever year-end recap. The CO2 offset metric was present from day one, establishing sustainability as a core narrative thread that every subsequent Rewind would build on.
